Character Creation

Character Creation in New Game Plus consists of the following components, each of which are detailed further down the page:

• OC information: Inform the GMs (and eventually your fellow players) about your name and pronouns. In addition, you will need to supply an email address. If you are under 18, you will need to alert the GMs for safeguarding reasons (this information will not be shared, as per our Privacy Policy).
• Basic IC information: Let us know your character's name and pronouns. Then select your character's species. Next, inform us of your character's skills (or lack thereof) by filling out the G.A.M.E. stats. You will also answer some species-specific questions regarding appearance and traits.
• Character Questionnaire: Answer some questions on your character and their feelings about their Role, Fate, and the Hero.
• Quirks: You may take up to 5 Quirks (any combination of character, relationship, or location). Each Quirk has an associated value (+, -, + AND -), and they must add up to 1, 0, -1, or -2. You can take any number of Playstyle Quirks.
• Public Bio: A bio that will be published on the Player Characters page on this wiki, visible to all players.
• Private Bio: A bio of your character visible only to you and the GMs.
• OC Notes to GMs: A message to the GMs, primarily to inform them how they can make the game more comfortable or accessible for you. Anything that is not covered in the rest of the form should go here.

Here are some sample characters to serve as inspiration!

New Game Plus is set in a mediaeval fantasy world with primarily non-human characters. IC names can be as creative or as simple as you like, though typical naming conventions for each species are available in each of the specific Species pages. In addition, please tell us your character's IC pronouns, so that we and other players know how to refer to them. These will be visible beside your character's name on the wiki. Please select your character's species, and then fill out your character's Skills.

The character questionnaire consists of the following questions detailed below:

What is your character’s Role in the Hero’s journey?

Are you a shopkeeper? A stablehand that gives the Hero their trusty steed? Bartering trade sequence #8? Roles can be big or small; we GMs would be happy to discuss ideas with you.

Is there something more your character wanted beyond this?

How satisfied are they with their Role? If given the chance, would they do something else? Do they know what it would be? (Do you know what it would be?)

If they don't want anything beyond this, why?

Does your character believe in fate and prophecy?

Can the future be foretold with certainty? Is it fruitful to resist?

What does your character think about the myth of the Hero?

Are they jealous of the Hero's Role, or do they pity them? How might they feel about the Hero relative to their Role?

Quirks represent resources, relationships, and other similar character traits that are not encompassed by Skills. Also unlike Skills, Quirks can be positive (+), negative (-), or both (+ AND -). Some Quirks are also listed as (+ OR -); you decide when taking the Quirk whether it is positive or negative. When making a character, you may choose a number of Quirks up to a maximum of 5, but they must add up to 1, 0, -1, or -2, with positive Quirks being a +1, negative being a -1, and (+ AND -) Quirks being a 0.

There are four types of Quirks in New Game Plus: Character, Relationship, Location, and Playstyle.

• Character Quirks represent personal traits of your character, in ways that can affect the success and failure of their actions.
• Relationship Quirks represent different relationships and reputations your character may have cultivated.
• Location Quirks are based on your character’s physical place within the world.
• Playstyle Quirks are used to affect your game experience. You may take as many or as few of these as you like, and they don’t count towards your Quirk limit. At any time, you can turn any of these Playstyle Quirks on or off by contacting a GM.

Please submit a public bio; this will be visible to all players on the Player Characters page. This public bio may include information that is common knowledge about your character, or how others might perceive them at first glance. This can include, but is not limited to, descriptions of their appearance, whether they are known within particular areas of Mydreign, and what their Role is.

Please also submit a private bio. This will be visible only to you and the GMs. This includes information that you do not want other players to know about. What are your character’s motivations? Do they accept or resent their Role? Do they like the Hero? What is their backstory? How has this shaped them?

This section is for anything not already covered by the form. Please let us know any concerns about accessibility, comfort, areas of the game you'd rather avoid or anything else.

To play the game you must fill out our ballot form before the deadline of 19:00 BST on Monday 6th July.

For New Game Plus, the deadline for character submissions is 23:59 BST on Thursday 16th July. The preferred method of submission for this is via Character Creation Form.

If however, for whatever reason, you would prefer not to use the Google Form, we will also accept character submissions by email to: gm@newgameplus.oxfordrpg.com.
