The Lizard’s Fangs

Careful where you step, for a red-hot lava pool might be hiding beneath you!

The Lizard’s Fangs are a large group of active volcanoes to the north of Mydreign. In the middle sits the tallest of all volcanoes - Mount Incisor. While the areas at the foot of these volcanoes are littered with lava, ashes, and caves full of ore veins, the area further away from them contains fertile lands and water sources suitable for geckos and other creatures. The area is originally inhabited by the Volgeckos, a native reptile race known for their lava-resistant obsidian and quartz buildings and resilience against fire and heat.

Large explosions of The Lizard’s Fangs have not been observed in current living memory, but the area contains active magma caverns that could erupt at any moment. This has led the Volgeckos to worship and seek blessings of protection from their volcanic goddess, Lavata, who resides within the area.

The dangers of the area involves red hot lava, falling chunks of rocks, ground fissures, and dangerous fauna that can maim even the most-crystallised Volgecko warriors.

Mount Incisor

Home of Lavata and her sacred obsidian castle. Carved inside the Mount Incisor's crater is a massive castle built entirely with obsidian. It is manned and guarded by hundreds of rotating troops and servants sent by all Volgeckos tribes. All of them are there to guard and serve their goddess, Lavata. Apart from the active servants and guards inside the castle, outsiders and other Volgeckos are only allowed near the main gate at the foot of Mount Incisor.

At the start of the year, a New-Year festivity is held at the northern foot of Mount Incisor. At the festival, after the offering of last year's crops and ores are offered to Lavata, the goddess herself makes her appearance to announce a new almanac, accurately predicting volcanic activities and rain patterns for the upcoming year.

Fort Hammerfell

Fort Hammerfell is both a fortress and a settlement built into the largest cave at the base of Mount Molar. It is the only area not governed by the Volgecko tribes.

In more recent history, a group of blacksmiths and explorers from the City of Myddul* have settled around the smaller volcano called Mount Molar. The area near Mount Molar is filled with iron ore veins and molten magma chambers, perfect for melting ores and forging them into tools and weapons. At the start, the Volgeckos were either happy to work with these newcomers or chose not to interact with them. This has led to some Volgeckos, especially those from the Tokay Village, working in the forge even today.

What started out as a small workshop that exported their fine weapons, armour, and tools eventually grew into a fully functional fortress and factory called Fort Hammerfell, capable of churning out even more products. Not only did such expansion disturb the volcano, but the ever growing population of the forge. These factors combined, the forge has drawn anger from Volgeckos who fear that such acts could anger the goddess Lavata, causing violent eruptions.

Tokay Village

Home to the Tokay tribe of the Volgeckos. The Tokayans are friendly folks who live on the fertile plain at the southern edge of the Lizard's Fangs. The area is also known to be unusually safe from the volcanic activities and the dangerous faunas, making it the largest settlement of the Lizard's Fangs Volcanoes and a popular base camp for visitors.

Originally, Tokayans were farmers who grew crops to feed other tribes or to trade with the City of Myddul. More recently, a few of the Tokayans have been employed at the Fort Hammerfell as labourers, miners, and blacksmiths.

If you ask their opinions of Fort Hammerfell, you will receive a milder response from Tokayans than any other Volgeckos. Most of the Tokayans tend to be sympathetic to their Volgecko kin, but they also wish for a peaceful solution to the Fort Hammerfell.

Members of the Tokay Village tend to paint their bodies with red circular spots made from red clay found in their local watering holes. The paint helps moisturise their scales and acts as an identification of friendly Volgeckos to the outsiders and other tribes.

Tribes of Volgeckos

Numerous friendly, neutral, and hostile villages and tribes litter through the region. Some of these are permanent settlements built with quartz and obsidian while some are temporary. [OC: Players are welcomed to come up with their own tribes and villages].
