Volgecko

Volgeckos are the lizard folks native to the The Lizard's Fangs. They are hearty folks, born to live and thrive in the harsh climate of their volcanic homeland. Their scales have developed heat-protective layers resembling porous lava rocks. As the Volgeckos age, these rocky scales develop into crystals – resembling colourful quartzes and obsidian glasses.

Volgecko society is one with deep ties to nature and their families. While each tribe of the Volgeckos have unique fashions and lifestyles, all Volgeckos share the same reverence for Lavata, nature, and family.

Lavata is their goddess. She controls volcanic activities, and warns the villages when they should relocate. The worship of Lavata is often blurred or combined with the worship of the volcanoes and nature.

Volgecko culture is deeply rooted in loyalty and honour. Their core beliefs revolve around a fair sharing of resources among their families and tribes, resulting in traditions that favour one's deep respect for their roots and their forebearers. Getting exiled from their tribe is thus the last resort before capital punishment.

While the crystal or obsidian scales of Volgeckos' grow in size with their ages, the sizes of these scales do not dictate their societal status. Instead, the larger scales only provide greater protection from heat and physical harms, and losing them is a mark of bravery.

In the Lizard's Fangs, tribes tend to live peacefully with one other.

Volgeckos can be based upon any quadrupedal lizards and geckos (suborder Lacertilia and Gekota). Their appearances are usually close to how a lizard would look if it were given a bipedal form with additional animal and crystallised or rocky features.

When creating a Volgecko, tell us:

• which lizards/geckos they are based on?
• what is their age? How crystallised are they?
• where in the Lizard’s Fangs are they from?

While Volgeckos speak the same languages as other races in Mydreign, they utilise unique naming languages based on the dead language of their ancestor [OC: Volgeckos names are based on Polynesian language of the Austronesian language family which include Hawaiian].

The forenames of the Volgeckos tend to be 2-3 syllables and associated with positive meanings and things. There is no gender convention for these names.

Meanwhile, due to their familial bonds, the surnames of the Volgeckos tend to be patronymic or matronymic. They combine the name of a parent or a grand parent with the suffix “kin”. There is no established convention for preference between maternal and paternal name when choosing the surname.

Example forenames (and meaning): Koa/Nakoa(brave warrior), Makoa (fearless), Alakai (Leader), Leilani (heavenly flower), Kai (sea), Keanu (cool breeze), Alana (beautiful), Kalea (bright), Tama (son), Pua (flower), Malia/Maliana (calm), Akoni (praise worthy), Aroha (love), Kalea (joy).

Example surnames: Koakin, Alakaikin, Puakin, Arohakin, Keanukin, Tamakin.

All Volgeckos start out with the following:

• You have crystallised scales on your body. Once per game, you may sacrifice your crystallised armour to cancel or prevent an injury.
• You have resistance against fire. However, prolonged swimming in a lava pool is ill-advised.
